The world has suddenly gone crazy about the “Ethiopian situation.” Everyone agrees that there is a terrible crisis, but no one seems to know when it started or how it will end. Some claim that it began around the middle of September, 1984. They are just short of saying that the disaster struck immediately after the Tenth Anniversary celebration of the Dergue coming to power and the formation of the “Workers' Party of Ethiopia.” Both of these events were September 12, 1984.
The fact is that the Horn of Africa was in a crisis situation to the same degree long before this. So why are all the media waging a war particularly at this time? What is the reason for the door of this empire to be opened now? What is the reason that the world is getting so excited? Has anyone said at any time what is actually going on inside there? How should we see and interpret the resettlement of people from “Tigray arid Wallo” into the • more fertile areas of the south?”
I will give you the main ideas and paint the important parts of the real picture for you here, you can take it or leave it. But remember what I say and keep note of it because what I am going to tell you is the key to understanding what is going to happen in that area of the world. Before I do that let me start with the record.
In September, 1934 a journalist named Mrs. Judith Miller from The New York Times and Mr. David Ottaway from The Washington Post were the only two reporters from the United States given visas to travel to Ethiopia to cover the Tenth Anniversary festival. The government refused, however, to let these journalists travel anywhere outside of Addis Abeba even when they asked to see the famine conditions that they had heard about as a “rumor.” These two were not given permission to do anything that they asked to do, so they finally got mad and began writing what everybody (including themselves) had been quiet about, and both their newspapers printed their stories as big news on the front pages on September 18, to be exact, I consider this the breakthrough for these two people in the U. S. As to why this happened, there could be several reasons. Since anybody's guess is as good as mine, I will not go into speculation, but I encourage everyone to take a shot at it. It is not too hard to figure out.
As far as I am concerned, here is why the West responded the way it did:
The West never really expected that its old sweetheart, Ethiopia, would go ahead and follow its threat to form a Workers' Party and conduct a fancy wedding ceremony with the U.S.S.R. But now that Ethiopia's marriage to the Soviets has become a reality, the West, especially the U.S. wants to expose what an ugly mistake it was for its ex” to be married to the enemy— “Communism”. The West's reaction to this insult is to wage a food war against the Soviet Union ‘s war of weapons. This is to try to show the strength of the West and to let Ethiopia and the world see what a shameful error she has made.
However, the Soviet Union and the Ethiopian regime have set a trap for the West. Since the marriage was finalized every gift that comes for the bride can be enjoyed by the mate in one way or another. Since Ethiopia's loyalty to the Soviets has now been tested, the new husband is even coaching the wife in new methods of flirting, especially with the wealthy former spouses, Britain and the United States, who have enjoyed her favors in the past. She is even allowed by the new husband to go almost all the way, up to and including suggesting that this “bad” marriage could be annulled before it's too late if the “ex” husbands could show a better offer. The ex—husbands are responding in a very excited fashion.
You might ask what is the attraction? I will tell you; it is her body, a body that has never been fully revealed to anybody. The amazing aspect of this is that even the former spouses and lovers of Ethiopia were never really allowed to have full access to her body or even to really see it. (The truth is that her body is artificially put together, so she has to hide it, but they have never found that out. Obviously she knows that if they find out, they will not be attracted any more.) Though she has always promised to give herself after just one more present, she never did. This was even one of the reasons that they let her go in frustration to join with another. But the mystery is still there, and they still feel something when she moves her body in a seductive fashion. (Of course the most beautiful part of the body that she is showing off is Oromia; without it she is just a skeleton.)
West is excited and the donations are flowing in. Why is it that the Soviet Union has chosen to allow Ethiopia to carry on in the way that she is doing now? Here is why.
Once Ethiopia was officially and legally tied into the Soviet bloc, the Soviets, having relaxed in their comfortable position, advised the military regime to implement the following strategy to keep and then increase their power in the area:
These are the essential elements involved in the current strategy of ‘resettlement of drought victims.”
Let me add just one note. No government should deal with the colonial government of Ethiopia (and it is its plan to keep its colonies and to go on colonizing, that is, to bring more real colonies of settlers from outside the area into Oromia and to extend its power beyond its present boundaries). Any government, even any agency that deals with the Ethiopian regime instead of dealing with the representatives of the people themselves, (by this I mean the Oromo Relief Association (ORA) in Oromia, the Eritrean Relief Association (ERA) in Eritrea, and the Relief Society of Tigray (REST) in Tigrey), is aiding this plan of the Dergue. I would hate to be misunderstood. I do not mean to say that the Dergue will be successful. I am simply saying one thing——this is why the issues of “Drought in Ethiopia” and the Program of Resettlement” as a kind of solution” is coming now on T.V., on the radio, and in the newspapers. This is the strategy behind that program. Everyone involved should know that and take the responsibility for its consequences.
